Beauty Bag Essentials for the Natural Girl- Travel Edition

Greetings Fam Bam!

Whether we are traveling abroad or going to the post office we want to look out best. In today’s society it is so easy to get drawn in to the multiple beauty products on the market. We are encouraged to buy and layer products on our face to look good. From ads on TV, or videos on YouTube it is hard not to fall victim to societal pressures of beauty.

I love watching YouTube Beauty Gurus tips and tricks. Although most of them are gorgeous on film, I found it is rare that even the YouTube Beauty Gurus wear what they feature on tutorials in real life. Just check their snap chats! Who needs a full coverage foundation with contour, highlight and shimmer while going to the grocery store anyway? One of my favorite beauty guru’s even admitted that a lot of the popular techniques are rooted in Drag and costume makeup.

In my opinion, women are beautiful. We don’t need much, if anything, to look absolutely stunning. For the Natural Girl, the objective should be to enhance, not mask, the natural. Girls with blemished skin could work towards bettering the skin with a great skincare routine. In the meantime, one could cover up the scarring with light weight, natural looking products.

On my recent trip abroad I included in my beauty bag my favorite essentials. I packed a BB cream, mascara, translucent powder, and lip balm.  One of my favorite BB crèmes is by Iman. Iman is a black owned drug store makeup brand. This BB cream evens your complexion and doubles as a moisturizer. You will still see imperfections in the skin because it has sheer coverage.  If my skin in dryer, I enjoy using my bare minerals BB cream. This one is great for hydration and also has SPF. Both are paraben free.

In addition to the BB cream, I used travel size mascara. I packed my LORAC mascara only because I couldn’t find my Bare Minerals one at the time. I don’t recommend the LORAC mascara. It flakes and smudges if you are not very careful with it.

A good translucent powered is also a great addition to your beauty bag. The powder is used to control oil/shine. I like the Iman powder because it is brown girl friendly. Another favorite of mine is the Laura Mercier translucent powder. I just heard Laura Mercier came out with a more brown girl friendly formula for the translucent powder. I’ll let you know how it is when I get my hands on it. The powder is just to control shine, so if you have dry or normal skin you can commit this product.

To complete my travel beauty I added in a great lip balm. Nobody wants ashy lips! This is an absolute travel essential. One of my favorite lip balms is the Tarte. It stays on your lips a lot longer than most drug store brands and is great at retaining moisture.

So these are my beauty bag essentials. Let me know what your favorites are below! Peace and Blessings.
